To End Violence Against Children #DimulaiDariSaya
03 Jul 2018
Violence against children can be eliminated through cooperation from many parties. Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI), Bina Nusantara (Binus) University, Qlue and Do Something Indonesia through campaign of End Violence Against Children (EVAC). The campaign is conducted through the XY Generation Inspirational Talk event held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Anggrek Campus, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta and the use of #DimulaiDariSaya (Starts from Me) tags for digital campaign.
This collaboration is a form of commitment from each party to support government efforts to eliminate violence against children in Indonesia which have been in emergency situations. According to Global Report 2017 Ending Violence in Childhood, 73.7% of children in Indonesia aged 1-14 years experience violent discipline in their homes while 50% of children aged 13-15 are bullied in their schools. In addition, there are 22,109 cases of child violence in Indonesia during 2011 - 2016. Sadly, the violence cases occur in houses, families, schools, and children’s closest environment.
However, child violence may be abolished if inter-sectoral cooperation can be established as what Emmy Luci, WVI Child Protection Coordinator, states as bellow.
"Violence against children can be eliminated. As the child-focused organization, WVI sees that this is not just the task of the government or parents, but it is our duty to end violence against children. Therefore, together with Binus University, Qlue, Do Something Indonesia via #DimulaiDariSaya tags, we bring a campaign of End Violence Against Children (EVAC) that we will run for five years ahead. We invite all parties to be aware and take steps to end violence against children,” says Emmy.
In XY Generation Inspirational Talk, students of Binus participated by performing theater about violence against children. Several other participants joined in including four representatives of the WVI-supported children's forum in Penjaringan and Jatinegara areas, representatives of the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Child Rights Activists and some survivors of child violence. With this effort, WVI hopes that all forms of violence against children can be abolished because to end violence against children it starts from us.
