Major floods hit the Greater Jakarta area on January 1, 2020, due to high rainfall that occurred on the night before.

Jabodetabek Flood Emergency Response

Based on a report released by the National Agency for Disaster Management per January 4, 2020, there were 92,261 people evacuated while 60 people died. Base on the report from BMKG, rain will still occur until March 2020.

Together with 21 organization and corporation, Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) signed a contract with the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta in dealing with floods. WVI is responding in the Kampung Melayu sub-district, Bidaracina sub-district, Cipinang Besar Selatan sub-district, and Balekambang sub-district.

As a first step, WVI will distribute non-food assistance in form of children kit, cleaning kit, and clean water. To ensure that children affected by the flood receive psychosocial assistance, WVI will establish Child-Friendly Space for children affected by disasters in the evacuation camps.

Within three months (03 January until 31 March 2020) WVI will encourage government and community’s health and flood preparedness.

Let us help the community, especially children affected by floods to get a clean and healthy environment.
