Emergency Response to the Flores Earthquake: WVI Reaches Thousands of Children and Families
The earthquake that struck Flores has affected communities, including children and families who need support to feel safe again and meet their basic needs. In response to the situation, Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) has continued its emergency response efforts across several affected areas: West Manggarai, Manggarai, East Manggarai, Ngada, Nagekeo, and Ende Regencies.
As of August 31, 2026, more than 7,500 adults and 4,000 children have participated in various emergency response activities carried out by WVI.
The response has focused on meeting basic needs while supporting children's well-being. A total of 952 non-food assistance packages have been distributed, including tents or tarpaulins for families and hygiene supplies for children and babies.
To help communities access clean water, WVI has also distributed 321,600 liters of clean water through 17 water tanks, reaching more than 5,500 children and adults.
Beyond physical needs, children's psychosocial well-being has also been a key priority during the emergency. Through psychosocial support activities in 16 locations, 910 children have been provided with safe spaces to play, express themselves, and process their experiences following the disaster.
For young children, WVI has also established 11 special kitchens for toddlers, reaching 340 children and helping provide nutritious food during the emergency response period.
These efforts are part of WVI's commitment to ensuring that even in times of disaster, children continue to receive the protection, support, and basic necessities they need.
WVI will continue to coordinate with communities and relevant stakeholders to respond to needs in affected areas and support the recovery of children and families.
