Exploring Digital amid Pandemic

Stay at home and do the activities such as school from home or working from home during a pandemic situation is not easy for some people. The use of digital devices such as computers, laptops, or gadgets is very necessary at this time. But in reality, some people still cannot use the device well.

Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) supported by Samsung concerned about this. Through the Samsung Smart Learning Center (SSLC) program which was established in Biak in 2018, SSLC was formed to provide new solutions in the teaching and learning process as well as in daily activities using digital technology, especially during the pandemic.

The SSLC program consists of smart classroom facilities along with supporting products and equipment accompanied by training provided to improve the knowledge, skills, and competencies of students, teachers, and assisted communities. This program has had many positive impacts on the people of Biak.

The SSLC program is still running today. WVI and Samsung continue to develop various activities to reach more beneficiary communities in the use of digital information. Some of the activities carried out include cloud literacy training, animation training for children, online business training for women, and reactivation of school committees.

Not only based on activities carried out within the SSLC facility itself, but WVI also collaborated with GKI Klasis South Biak to implement a reading corner in the church. This Reading Corner is equipped with reading books that are supported by Samsung.

Udiana Awarawi, Head of PKK Kampung Mandouw who attended online business training with WVI at the SSLC facility, said that the online business training was something that was wanted for women in Biak.

“We only can show and sell the products in villages, homes and to the relatives. We thanked God that after we received training, we can reach more people outside. The benefits provided are not only for us who take part in the training, we will also invite others, especially young mothers, to do what has been taught to us in this training, "said Awarawi.

Similar to Udiana, Alex Wakum, parents of students at SD YPK Wuapnor also benefited from the SSLC facility and the training provided during the pandemic.

"We are very grateful for the training held to understand how to better educate children in the future through the internet network that has been conveyed through the media," he said.

The assistance provided in the SSLC program has proven beneficial to students, teachers, parents, child care groups, the general public such as entrepreneurs, and other communities in Biak. The SSLC program is still running and is expected to be a solution for the wider community in Biak.
