Aware of Child Protection, Districts and Villages Declare Commitment to Child-Friendly Areas

The commitment to create a child-friendly area has been echoed by the local government. Jelimpo Subdistrict and four villages in Landak Regency, West Kalimantan did it. In September 2021, regional leaders jointly declared a commitment to creating Child-Friendly Districts and Villages.

Landak Area Program of WVI continues to support local leaders to make this happen. WVI keeps reminding them about various indicators of achievement of Child-friendly Districts and Villages, such as the fulfillment of Birth Certificate ownership.

Vietra, as the Head of District Jelimpo, also supports this program to develop areas that have a perspective to fulfill children's rights and child protection.

"Districts and villages need to build a commitment to achieve District and Child-friendly Village, there are many indicators but we can prioritize them for the next year," explained Vietra.

Vietra has also conveyed this to the local Regent and has received support to bring about the changes.

"I appreciate WVI who has become a discussion partner to open up thoughts and the efforts that have been made. The commitment should not stop in the form of a declaration and be followed up in the next stages. I am also impressed with the birth certificates of the children assisted by WVI, which are at 94%, hopefully, we can fulfill them for the other children. Let's do it with commitment," she concluded.
