Boosting Group Immunity at the Country Border

Boosting Group Immunity at the Country Border

One thousand and five hundred doses of the Sinovac vaccine were given to the people of Sajingan Besar District, Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan. The Mass Vaccination Program in this district is the second stage of vaccination after previously launching 1,218 doses of the same vaccine at the Aruk Border Post (PLBN) on August 30, 2021. Yanti, the Education Coordinator for the Sambas Program Area of Wahana Visi Indonesia, said that the mass vaccination program was carried out as a form of support for the government’s program to increase group immunity at national borders.

“Hopefully, every element of society can take care of each other by increasing their respective immunity, especially against vulnerable groups, notably children. This is in line with WVI’s vision, which is ‘for Every Child, Life in All Its Fullness’ even during a pandemic,” explained Yanti.

Ariani, one of the participants in the mass vaccination program who is also involved as a volunteer in helping field officers, admitted that she was thrilled to have the opportunity to be vaccinated so that her immune system could be boosted.

“Because this vaccination is mass, many families like to come to be vaccinated,” she said.

Based on data from the Communications and Information Department of Sambas Regency as of September 24, 2021, the number of those confirmed to be Covid-19 positive was 2,861, and 1,115 suspects and 4,801 had close contact. Sajingan Besar district has the highest number of cases out of 19 other districts in Sambas Regency. This can happen because this district is located right on the border between Indonesia and Malaysia.

This mass vaccination program is carried out by the Vaccine Booth of TNI Polri, which is a collaboration between the Indonesia National Armed Force (TNI), Indonesia National Police (Polri), Sajingan Besar Public Health Center (Puskesmas), and Wahana Visi Indonesia.
