Cadre's Story: ASKA Brings a Huge Impact on Us

Hello, my name is Metriana. I want to tell you about the situation in my village.

When economic conditions began to weaken due to Covid-19 at the beginning of 2019, many families here began to get to know cooperatives, whether it was an offer with daily, weekly or monthly loans.

A cooperative is a place for us to borrow money to help our income. But over time, the more money we borrowed from the cooperative the worse the economy got.

It happened because the installments were paid every day for daily loans and even weekly installments. This makes our income unable to meet the needs of our household.

But we are grateful, there is a glimmer of hope that we received through the Socialization of Household Economic Management (PERT) and the formation of the ASCA group (Accumulating Savings and Credit Association) which was facilitated by WVI and partnered with SINODE GMIT which began in May 2022.

I got new knowledge of how to manage finances in the household and it was very helpful in this case the household needs and the needs of school children. The money we collect in the ASKA group, we lend to group members at low interest, so that we can return it, and the money will also return to each of us for our needs.

Thanks to the knowledge and practice in the ASKA group, 19 other group members and I are more enthusiastic about saving regularly and our brotherhood remains in peace in the church environment and the community.

We hope that when WVI is no longer in the village, through the partnership model built with SINODE, GMIT will continue to support us through other activities. With prayers and health greetings for all of us.
