First Best Civil Society Organization in the SDGs Actions Award 2023

Wahana Visi Indonesia has once again received appreciation from the national government of the Republic of Indonesia in the SDGs Actions Award, which held on November 6, 2023. WVI won the First Best Civil Society Organization for the Floating Farm program in Asmat District, Papua. This program is a collaboration with 3M company through GlobalGiving.

The floating farm program is an innovative way and very suitable for the geographical conditions of Asmat which are mostly swamps. With the floating farm, children and communities in Asmat can obtain varied food ingredients, meet nutritional needs, and improve the nutritional status of toddlers. This farm is protected using wooden fences so that it is not washed away or submerged in water during high tide. Asmat Regency itself is one of the most remote areas in Indonesia, so implementing programs in this area also has high challenges and risks.

In 2014, WVI also won a similar award (then still called the MDGs Award) for innovation in education. The award was given to the operational office in Sambas, West Kalimantan for the Green School contextual education program.

WVI's highest appreciation and deepest gratitude goes to the children and communities, local partners, and volunteers in Asmat District, Papua, 3M as the donor, and all staff who have worked smart so that this program can make an impact. It is a very valuable opportunity to witness how Asmat children and communities can experience transformation and empowerment, and get recognition from the Indonesian government. Hopefully WVI's next programs can give best contribution to the wellbeing of Indonesian children.
