During her teenage years, Tiara (16) faced a difficult life. She lived with her two older brothers after both of her parents passed away. Despite their hardships, they supported one another and found a glimmer of hope in something simple: letters from a sponsor.
Tiara, a sponsored child through Wahana Visi Indonesia in East Halmahera Regency, regularly corresponded with her sponsor through letters. Exchanging stories with her sponsor became something deeply meaningful to her. She read every sentence with great care and emotion.
There was one letter in particular that left a lasting impression on her. It described snow. For Tiara, snow was more than just words on a page—it was a glimpse of a world she had never seen before. White, cold, and beautiful. “Snow is pretty,” she said innocently. From that sense of wonder, a dream began to grow: one day, she hoped to see snow with her own eyes.
In addition to bringing her joy, exchanging letters with her sponsor helped Tiara become more confident in expressing herself through writing. She learned how to share her feelings, tell stories about her life, and speak about her hopes for the future. She no longer felt alone. There was a sponsor who cared about her, took the time to listen, and valued what she had to say.
From there, other dreams slowly began to take shape. Tiara developed a motivation to continue her education and pursue higher studies. She hopes to attend university and one day work in a bank. To her, education is the pathway to a better future and proof that limitations do not define a person’s destiny.
As her confidence and determination continued to grow, Tiara began to see her life differently. She no longer focused solely on the challenges she faced, but also on the opportunities within her reach. The relationship and communication she shared with her sponsor became a foundation that encouraged her to dream, aspire, and work towards a brighter future.
