Happy to Have Water to Bathe Before School
This little six-year-old boy lives with very limited clean water. He lives in a village in Southwest Sumba Regency where clean water is scarce, with prolonged dry season. Ranger, his name, usually have to skip his bath every time he goes to school because there is no water. The water available is only enough for Ranger to wash his face.
If there is no water for bathing, how much more for washing school uniforms. Ranger's mother has to use the water for other more important needs such as drinking and cooking. Because of this situation, Ranger could not maintain his personal hygiene and was at risk of various diseases.
To address this, WVI worked with the community are building a clean water facility in the village. It is not easy to find water sources in a village that is dry. Drilling had to be done for hundreds of metres to find the water source. However, all this effort paid off when Ranger was happy to be able to take a shower before going to school.
"Now there is no water shortage in our house. I don't have to wash my face anymore because I can take a shower," said little Ranger. His uniform is also no longer shabby. He can go to school in a clean, white uniform. At home, Ranger also has new activities, such as helping his mother wash the dishes, pouring water into the pot, and filling clean water into the jerry can.
The changes in Ranger's life are possible because of the support of donors and child sponsors. Becoming a child sponsor means you can make a difference through every drop of water Ranger uses every day. Or, you can also be a child sponsor who brings hope through the various programmes that WVI implements among children and communities.
