Hoping for Good Things

Mr. Deni Setiyanto registered as a child sponsor when representatives of Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) shared information about the Child Sponsorship Program to the GKI Jati Asih congregation in mid-2019. Deni Setiyanto along with his wife, Ester Maria, agreed to sponsor a child named Rozyman from the Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan.

Upon learning of the Child Sponsorship Program, the couple felt happy because there was a place where they could channel the blessings of God their families had received. According to Ester, her family has been actively supporting ministry in the church but has never been involved with other social activities.

While sponsoring Rozyman, who is currently in grade 5, Deni and Ester also shared this good news with their two children. Their first child was a girl and had gone to college, while her second son is a student of senior high school.

Considering her two children are already growing up and are teenagers, there is a strong desire from Esther to be able to support the education of other children in need. Besides donating, Esther also hopes to help the availability of school supplies for Rozyman.

According to Ester, In April 2020, Deni's health was known to decline. He was typhoid and had been declared as an ODP (a person who is monitored caused by Covid-19), so he had to be treated in a hospital isolation room. For 5 days, Ester and her children are not allowed to visit or accompany Mr. Deni. They can only pray together from home, surrender to God, and give encouragement to Deni through short messages and video calls every day.

Gratefully, there are many friends and relatives who come to pay attention and support Deni and his family. Their prayers also get answers from God. After a re-examination of the x-ray results, Deni, who did have a history of lung pain, was stated negative of Covid-19. Things improved, Deni was allowed to go home on condition he had to do independent isolation for 10 days.

Despite being healthy, Deni remained vigilant and tried to maintain his health well. This is because he works at one of the money exchange companies, where he has to meet with many people every day, including foreigners. Consuming lots of fruits, vegetables, vitamins, and sunbathing regularly is one of his efforts to maintain body immunity.

After experiencing a difficult period in April 2020, Deni and Ester agreed to live healthier and better than before. They also hope that Rozyman and his family remain healthy in the midst of this pandemic so that Rozyman can continue to study well, even though the conditions of study in Sambas are definitely different from those in Jakarta.
