Importance of Recording in Livestock Production

It was very difficult for Arisman, a farmer from Central Sulawesi, to find information related to his business development. He had to consult with many other breeders in order to increase his knowledge of his business. Finally, Arisman met with the Eggcciting project of Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI), funded by DSM.

“I like to consult with friends (breeders). I ask about how much production, how many chickens, but it's difficult because they themselves don't know how many chickens they have, and it's also difficult for me to use what kind of feed and want to know what the results are, it's difficult,” he said.

Arisman's difficulties have been resolved since Arisman met with WVI's Eggciting project staff and Individual Service Providers (PJI). In January 2022, Arisman received a recording form to assist in the process of recording livestock.

A recording is one of the efforts that can be done to increase livestock production because by doing recording, livestock rearing management can be better. Furthermore, recording means carrying out recording activities such as recording production, livestock population, livestock health, finance, and others.

"Yeah, that's great. These (recording tools) are what I need,” said Arisman after being given recording tools from WVI.

Arisman admitted that he was helped by the recording tools he received. After using these recording tools, Arisman is committed to reorganizing his farm records.

Arisman deeply regrets that many breeder friends are indifferent to keeping records, even though this is very important for the progress of their business. According to him. Recording activities have many benefits, one of which is making it easier for farmers to make decisions or real actions in handling problems that occur and also making it easier for farmers to conduct livestock selection.

Through the distribution of recording tools, it is hoped that in the future independent breeders in Palu City and Sigi Regency are serious about making better records.
