Inauguration of an Increasingly Resilient Community

At the end of October 2023, Wahana Visi Indonesia through the ANTICIPATION project with funding support from ADH (Aktion Deutschland Hilft) conducted an Anticipatory Action Workshop for Disaster Risk Reduction in Jakarta. This activity was attended by the BPBD of DKI Jakarta Province, BMKG Public Meteorology Center, East Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department, Ciliwung Cisadane River Basin Center, East Jakarta Social Sub-Department and kompas.com Fact Check Team.

In this workshop, the government's efforts to reduce disaster risk through programs from related agencies were presented. In addition, an appeal was also given regarding the dangers of hoaxes, especially during disasters so that socialization and education related to this need to be improved. WVI also explained about the Flood Anticipatory Action Protocol, and in collaboration with the Kampung Melayu Village Government carried out the inauguration of the Anticipatory Action Alert Team at the community level. This workshop was held as a form of anticipation to face the beginning of the rainy season. This is very important so that people in flood-prone areas, such as Kampung Melayu Village, can be more alert.

In conjunction with the activities in Jakarta, WVI together with the Government of Alor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara also held a Workshop on Tropical Cyclone Disaster Anticipation Action Protocols and the Inauguration of the Alor Regency Disability Forum. This activity is a follow-up to the implementation of the ANTICIPATION project in Alor Regency. ANTICIPATION (Asia Anticipatory Action for Disaster Mitigation) is a program that aims to improve early action based on weather forecasts that are inclusive and gender responsive for more effective disaster preparedness.

In this activity, WVI conducted socialization of cyclone anticipation action protocols to stakeholders, in addition to the inauguration of the Alor District Disability Forum with the Decree of the Alor Regent represented by Assistant II of Alor Regency. This activity was also attended by the Disaster Management Coordinator from World Vision Germany in the context of a monitoring visit to the project area.

"With the establishment of the Alor District Disability Forum, we hope that the forum can become a government partner organization and can provide input to the government for better program plans implementation," said the Head of the Alor District Social Service, Daing Duru, S. Sos, MT. This further shows how important inclusive government work programs are, especially for disaster-prone areas such as Alor Regency.
