IYCF Assistance Create Knowledgeable Parents

Fauzan (1yo) looked cheerful and very active when we met him at an integrated health post (posyandu) in Sambas District, West Kalimantan. Fauzan is one of 500 children who have benefited from the Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) assistance program assisted by Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) Sambas Program Area.

Sri is an active posyandu member. She usually comes and participates in posyandu activity. According to Sri, the knowledge related to the 4 Stars Menu is very useful for her in providing food for Fauzan, especially with ingredients that can be found surrounding her living area.

"Fauzan likes foods such as spinach, soup, and potatoes, but he likes to eat fish the most," Sri said.

Just like Sri, PMBA assistance at the WVI assisted area of ??the Sambas Program Area was beneficial for children and families. Besides getting improved nutrition, parents have helped during the Covid-19 pandemic. Parents' knowledge about 4 Stars Menu has increased. Now they know how to serve food for children with local vegetable ingredients.

Not only getting knowledge but, Sri also feels a difference in her child. After 14 days of receiving PMBA, Fauzan gained 2 ounces of weight.

"Alhamdulillah, with this PMBA activity, I could know what a 4 Stars Menu is, and I can provide it myself at home. My child is getting happy day by day," told her.

WVI continues to run this program and collaborates with the posyandu, and the public health center (puskesmas) in Sambas District. Posyandu cadres who are partners of the program got training regarding the 4 Stars Menu guide, serving methods, and portions for infants at age levels. Furthermore, each cadre will inform the parents of the posyandu members.
