Literacy Drive Facilitator Teacher Training Degree, WVI Collaborates with Ministry of Education and Culture

Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) through the POP (Program Organisasi Penggerak) project together with the Ministry of Education and Culture held training for Wahana Literacy Master Teachers at the East Manggarai Regency level in order to increase the capacity of literacy facilitators (Training of Trainers).

This training was attended by representatives of teachers, school principals, and the East Manggarai Education Office. They are expected can be master teachers who will be presenters on Wahana Literacy in training at the Teacher Working Group (KKG) level, cluster, and the school level.

Head of the Department of Education, Youth and Sports (PPO) of Manggarai Regency Blasius Teto in his speech said, “Teachers play a very important role in making students able to learn to read in early grades. However, not all teachers have the required skills and knowledge prerequisites to be able to effectively play this role. Therefore, efforts must be made continuously to a point where literacy must become a culture or habit for our children.”

Blasius added that in order for this literacy program to be successful, the habit of reading must start with the teacher himself. Teachers must also patiently and continuously invite students to like reading. There must be creativity from the teachers to create a literate school atmosphere, and lastly, start in a simple way and prioritize local wisdom.

"Hopefully more teachers will be involved in activities like this, and I would like to thank WVI for always accompanying 42 schools in East Lambaleda and South Lambaleda," said Blasius.

Meanwhile, WVI Motivating Organization (POP) Program Manager Hotmianida R. Panjaitan said that there were so many good practices that resulted from the POP phase 1 activity in East Manggarai which has been taking place since 2021. For the second phase of POP activities, it is planned to run in 42 schools until November and begin with training for 19 master teachers and with advanced material from POP phase 1," said Hotmianida.

Furthermore, she is very grateful that in POP phase 2, the training can be carried out face-to-face, so that the material received by the master teachers can be clearly understood.
