Participation for Teachers

Participation for Teachers

Yuliana (11), called Esta, is a child representative of Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) in the Manggarai Program Area. She has been actively participating in various activities with WVI even since she was in early childhood education. Joining a children's group made Esta grow into a different person. She did not hesitate to get involved in coordinating appreciation activities for teachers on Teacher's Day 2020.

"I was a shy person. I was shaking and scared, sometimes even crying when I stood in front of the class, sometimes even crying," she said, smiling reminiscing about her former self.

WVI together with the church conducts a children's group activity program which aims to increase the role and activity of children. Children are involved in many activities, and almost all activities are followed by Esta. One of them is the activities of celebrating Teacher's Day.

On November 25, 2020, where the Teacher's Day celebration was the most different in the history of teachers' hearts in Manggarai, teachers who usually commemorate other teachers at the cluster level and had to give up the absence of a ceremony with their fellow teachers. Seeing this, Esta and her friends did not remain silent.

Esta led her friends to make simple greeting cards for the teachers. For two days they worked in groups. They wrote their gratitude and affection for the teacher.

Esta looks so enthusiastic and excited. They managed to make ten greeting cards. With a happy face, she showed one of their works. "Ami momang ite" is what she says, which means we love you.

The awaited day has arrived. Esta and her friends managed to surprise the teachers. All the students suddenly entered the teacher's room while playing the song Guruku Tersayang. Esta greetings and respect the teachers, and gave them simple gifts.

"Thank you WVI. We are happy," said Esta on behalf of her friends.

WVI, through the Child Sponsor program, continues to move to help children and the community to live to all its fullest. Collaboration with partners and the government provides greater opportunities for children especially to grow into better individuals. Find out more about WVI's Child Sponsorship programs at https://wahanavisi.org/en/sponsor-anak/anak
