Roslinda Receives KPAI Award as an Inspirational Child
Commemorating National Children's Day on July 23, 2021, the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) gave awards to children of Indonesia. Roslinda (16), assisted child of Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) in the East Sumba Program Area, was one of those who received the KPAI Award in the category of Inspiring Child Figures Who Cares About Child Protection.
"Thank you to all those who have supported me. This award motivates other friends and me to be passionate about campaigning to stop violence against children," said Roslinda, who is also known as Oslin.
Roslinda has been actively involved in various children's forum activities since 2017. She is also speaking up about children's rights in the village, even standing before UN representatives representing Indonesian children to voice children's rights.
"Even though we are still in a pandemic situation I hope that all of us, also the government, parents, the community, and even all stakeholders, remain enthusiastic about continuing to take action to stop violence against children through social media or other internet media. Let's support the theme of national children's day this year's," she added.
Oslin has been active since she joined the village children's forum. She and members of the children's forum participate in the local policy-making process. At that time, WVI was encouraging the village government in the assisted areas to make a Village Regulation on Child Protection.
At that time the children in the village where Oslin lived did not yet have full birth certificates. With the active voice of Oslin and friends, now the children in the village have 100 percent birth certificates.
Her passion brought her to be a representative of Indonesian children at the UN headquarters in New York, 9-18 July 2019 in the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). On October 8, 2020, Oslin was re-elected to convey the voices of vulnerable children affected by COVID-19 in Indonesia to representatives of countries at the United Nations (UN Member States).
Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection I Gusti Ayu Bintang Puspayoga who was present at the award ceremony said, "The awarding of the KPAI Award reminds us all, that all of us, including children, can do something for this nation. contribute to the protection of children. Children are our future, they have rights like adults. Fulfillment of children's rights is the obligation of all of us."
