The Benefit of Planting Organic Vegetables During the Pandemic

#BersamaMelawanCovid19 - Start from the passion of his wife, Ani, to grow organic vegetables and fruit, especially horticultural crops, Anhar (56), a man from Ternate City, managed to find new income for his family during the Covid-19 pandemic. The decreased income during the pandemic that Anhar felt is overcome by selling the organic vegetables that his wife grows.

Anhar and Ani are members of the Timamo farmer group, a farmer group assisted by Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) Ternate Area Program. They have known the best way to grow organic vegetables and fruit since 2014. However, at that time, Anhar was more focused on his job as a truck driver, and Ani remained focus on the planting process.

One day Anhar got the idea from the persistence of his wife and other farmer group members in growing organic vegetables. Ani's horticultural plants, which harvested in just 1-3 months, motivated Anhar to distribute the vegetables.

"At first, I saw in the Whatsapp group made by WVI AP Ternate about the high demand for organic vegetables, then I wanted to take part in the process of planting and distributing all organic vegetable products from the Timamo farmer group," said Anhar.

Now, Anhar and the Timamo farmer group are still passionate about growing and distributing organic vegetables. According to Anhar, the level of public awareness of the importance of consuming organic vegetables provides good opportunities for him and other farmer group members.

"What is important so that the group can progress is to focus on the process of growing organic vegetables and mutual trust," he concluded.
