Volunteer’s Story: A Support from Risk and Natural Disaster Specialist for Indonesian People

Natural disaster issue is special and only several people interest to learn about it. One of them is Katrin, a WVI’s volunteer, a woman from Bogor City. The woman taking her magister education in Environmental Science with majority risk and natural disasters in Lausanne, Switzerland, loves to help more people through her capability.

“That is just because I have a background in environmental science so, I want to implement the knowledge that I have to help people, especially in the context of Indonesia. With knowing about the environment and natural disasters, I can help more people,” Katrin explained.

She felt that those things can be achieved by being a volunteer. With WVI, she gets experiences especially in maintaining people management in climate change and emergency context,” she continued.

“I cannot get the experience in the university! This voluntary activity is useful,” she added.

Katrin starts her voluntary journey with WVI by being a translator. She works with WVI’s document translation. Then she continues in helping the research and innovation team to help running projects in WVI. She gives advice related to the data and research method for WVI’s team and creates scientific articles.

She loves the voluntary programs. That is why Katrin suggests everyone join the program.

“Trust me, you will get a lot of experiences. Also, you can build a connection with a lot of great people,” she concluded.
