WVI Collaborates with Partners in West Sulawesi Earthquake Emergency Response

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 hit Majene, West Sulawesi at a depth of 10 km on Jan 15, 2021, at 02.28 am local time. Most people were evacuated due to the earthquake. By this condition, Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) contributes to do West Sulawesi Earthquake Emergency Response (WISER) in collaboration with partners.

The four focus of WVI in doing the response are:

  • Emergency needs of children and communities for safety and prevention of COVID-19 transmission during the evacuation period
  • Education in emergency for children
  • Psychosocial support & child protection in emergency
  • Facilitate Community Disaster Preparedness Plan

According to the data of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Jan 16, 2021, about 42 people died, 15,000 people evacuated, 637 people injured, 62 houses were damaged, 3 hospitals heavily damaged, 4 schools heavily damaged, electrical blackout, and lost network happened post-disaster.
