WVI Distributes Food Aid for People in North Lombok Regency

#BersamaMelawanCovid19 - The impact of COVID-19 caused most people to lose their jobs, making it difficult for them to meet their economic needs especially for food needs. Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) is supported by Deutschland Aktion Hilft (ADH) providing food aid to families of infants affected by Covid-19 in 2 villages in the North Lombok Regency.

This food package was given to 1,000 families of under-five children that spread in 35 sub-villages in Sokong Village and Jenggala Village. These beneficiaries are those who have not received various assistance from the government and are included in the lower economic class.

Samuel Situmorang as the Response Manager of the Lombok Earthquake Emergency Response (LEER) explained that the availability of food was the most urgent need at this time in the community, especially in the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The economy of the community has not fully recovered from the impact of the earthquake in 2018 and is now confronted with non-natural disasters such as Covid-19 which have caused them to lose their jobs and find it difficult to meet their own food needs. Therefore, WVI is here to help those who are most vulnerable, especially for toddlers' families, so that they can meet their food needs and help meet the family's nutritional adequacy," Samuel said.

This food aid was provided in the form of a Value Voucher Modification of IDR 250,000. Each beneficiary family is free to buy their food needs in stores that have collaborated with WVI.

The hope is that this assistance can ease the burden of expenses and can meet the daily food needs of affected families.

"We are very grateful to be given this assistance, especially regarding the existence of this outbreak, we have difficulty in meeting needs," said Nurul Handayani, one of the beneficiaries of Jenggala Village.

Until now, Wahana Visi Indonesia has distributed 275 food packages in 10 sub-villages in Jenggala Village. This distribution will continue until early June 2020.
