WVI Supports Weaver Woman
The beauty of Indonesian weaving is no longer in doubt. The beauty is created by the local women. One of them is located in the district of Alor, NTT. The weaving of Alor is the main attraction and has even become the main source of income for families in Alor.
The number of Alor ikat weaving craftsmen is big, and generally, they are women. Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) cares about their existence, so with the support of the New Zealand Embassy, WVI through the Alor Weaving project assists ikat craftsmen.
Mentoring is carried out in several ways that aim to support the recovery of the ikat weaving business during the pandemic, such as providing financial literacy for women, as well as business management training, to help weavers expand the distribution of weaving.
Ance Tonulalang, a beneficiary of this program, said that the training he received could indirectly help him to achieve family welfare. He even hopes to be able to continue the spirit of weaving to the next generation.
"We hope that we will be even more active, more diligent in doing this ikat weaving as far as we can, to improve our lives, especially for families, for parents, for children," said Ance.
The Alor Weaving project is also carried out to preserve Indonesia's cultural heritage, as well as helping Alor children and the people of Alor live more fully.
