Yoboi Reading House Won a Library Contest in Papua

The literacy program is still the main program implemented by Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) in the Papua region. One of the implementations of this program is through the assistance of the Yoboi Reading House located in the Lake Sentani area. Through synergy with the community, the Yoboi Reading House won the Public Library Competition (village/sub-district) held by the Regional Library and Archives Education Office of Papua Province.

Solis Hanny Felle a tutor at the Yoboi Reading House as well as a child companion in the Yoboi sub-village, received the award on Thursday (8/10/2020). Activeness, the availability of a reading curriculum, and the complete formation of a companion reading tutor are several reasons why this simple library has won the prize.

The Yoboi Reading House has also used local materials that are integrated with basic reading literacy activities, as well as using the Wahana Literasi Module guide published by WVI. The Yoboi Reading House is also considered to have many attributes and displays in the form of alphabets and images with contextual nuances that make it easier for children to understand letters and words.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Yoboi Reading House was active every two weeks. Every child in early childhood, elementary, and junior high schools can come to this reading house and read their favorite books every day.

WVI itself has been assisting the Yoboi Village since 2012. The Yoboi Village has also been one of the pioneers of the KBA (Children's Study Group) which targets all ages of child representatives in Sentani. Various activities such as self-development and life skills are the main focus in this KBA. Meanwhile, Yoboi Reading House has been integrated with Wahana Literasi WVI since April 2018.
