Sky News, Indonesia – During the ‘Mornings’ segment on Sky News, a report was broadcast on the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Indonesia, killing at least 47 people and damaging hundreds of buildings. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing, although they have been hampered by repeated aftershocks. During the report, Sky News connected live to Jakarta and interviewed Fransiskus Fernando, Disaster Management Manager at Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI), a humanitarian organisation focusing on children. Fernando explained that WVI forms part of Indonesia’s national emergency response team, whilst also answering the presenter’s questions regarding the strength of this earthquake compared to previous events, as well as Indonesia’s level of preparedness in dealing with similar disasters
