3 Years of Service, WVI Ends Lombok Earthquake Emergency Response

After three years of serving and assisting communities affected by the earthquake in the Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara province, Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) officially ends the Lombok Earthquake Response program. The response program, which began on July 31, 2018, has benefited 173,466 people, of which 78,416 are children.

During the three years of the response, WVI reached out to communities in two districts: North Lombok and East Lombok districts and four sub-districts. WVI carried out disaster interventions in 23 villages that experienced a fairly severe impact due to disasters in North Lombok and East Lombok.

Various aids were distributed by WVI, such as distributing 25,000 packages of family and children's equipment, building hundreds of temporary shelters, building sanitation and health facilities and access to clean water, to providing cash assistance. WVI also provides psychosocial assistance through the Ruang Sahabat Anak activities, as well as distributing food packages with special nutrition for infants and children. The results of the program evaluation noted that 79,776 residents had access to sanitation and clean water facilities and 4,426 people benefited from the nutrition and health program. The economic aid and food support program has also reached 36,876 people, and 11,238 people have received the benefits of temporary food and building assistance. While in the child protection sector, as many as 20,148 people have benefited from child protection programs and as many as 19,684 children have gained access to education programs.

The Lombok Earthquake Response Manager, Samuel Situmorang explained that three main impacts were realized in the program.

“Children are no longer traumatized and afraid. They also understand what to do if an earthquake occurs again. Villages and schools also now have a Referral System for reporting cases of violence against children and abuse of children and women. Then efforts to prevent underage marriages are now more intensive after involving the government, religious leaders, and community leaders, "explained Samuel.

The end of the Lombok Earthquake Emergency Response which was carried out on Monday (20/12/21) also invited the beneficiaries of several program activities that had been carried out. One of them is Nur Aini.

At the event, Nur Aini expressed her happiness because she had experienced the benefits of WVI's programs in her village. She said, “We are very grateful for what we got from the WVI assistance program. We as housewives can now help husbands in farming.”

The Lombok Earthquake Response has officially ended, but WVI continues to work with the people of Lombok, through the opening of the East Lombok Program Area and the presence of various other programs in early 2022.

Thank you for your kind support to help the people of Lombok.
