Together Make Family Life Better

Mrs. Edo (35 yo) and Mr. Kasim (45 yo) is a couple who want to change their family’s life. They used to live with bad habits and now they have been changing it into something better.

They used to do open defecation, drink unboiled water, and do not aware of children's needs. That is common to be done in society. These things made both of them change their mind and want to have a better life.

“We do this for better life of the family,” said one of them.

Both of them are farmers and work in the garden. They also fishing to get food for the family. They live together with relatives in a house which contains 15 people.

Mrs. Edo and Mr. Kasim work together and help each other in their daily routine. It also fulfills what the family needs.

“We fished together. If I were free, I would help her to get some food,” Mr. Kasim told.

Mrs. Edo actively joins Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) programs. According to her, many positive impacts she got by doing the activities with WVI. She can learn to plant and use their front yard to plant vegetables. Moreover, Mr. Kasim’s family became one of the families who get water reservoirs from WVI because of their initiative to make their own latrine.

“Now, we are enjoying clean water and do defecation at the toilet. I also have been planting vegetables at the yard,” Mrs. Edo explained.  She continues, “Before WVI came here, Mr.Teacher had taught us how to plant but we have to go far to do that.” Mrs. Edo often also cook for children U-5.

The life of Mrs. Edo and Mr. Kasim’s family is getting much better. They live healthier and still have a dream to make a change for others’ life.

“We hope that we can have a Healthy House. Children also can have an education so they can be a teacher. We hope that we can trigger our family to make a toilet or just remain them to boil water before drink. If we do that together, we believe there will be no more sick children and all family become healthy,” Mr. Kasim closed.
