Capacity Building for Interfaith Religious Leaders
Children are in a system and environment that is influenced by many parties. We call it the child protection system. Religious leaders and faith communities are one of the parties that influence children's lives.
Given the very important social role and influence of religious leaders in the community, WVI conducts capacity building for interfaith religious leaders related to Child Protection and Gender so that religious leaders also have a child's perspective for a fully intact child's life in their environment.
WVI conducts capacity building for religious leaders in several ways, including:
1. Channels of Hope for Child Protection and Gender
Channels of Hope is a faith-based program approach that changes the perception (Head, Heart, Hand) of religious leaders to move to influence socio-cultural norms, beliefs, and practices that are at the root of child well-being problems, and mobilize their faith communities to take action and support child well-being in a contextual and sustainable manner.
Throughout 2021-2022, in collaboration with interfaith religious institutions, WVI carried out capacity building for 231 Islamic and Christian religious leaders related to Child Protection and Gender.
2. Parenting with Love
Parents, as the closest party to the child, have a great influence on the child's growth and development. WVI, through 200 religious leaders who have been trained, provides Parenting With Love assistance to parents in their faith communities. Parenting With Love is an effort to create a safe environment for children and to be able to care for children without violence based on the values of the faith they believe in.
As a result, by 2022, 2138 parents will have received capacity building on Parenting with Love, and 1260 parents will commit to monthly support groups.
3. Creating a Safe and Peaceful Environment for Children
WVI provided capacity building to religious leaders on the importance of building a safe and peaceful environment for children. By 2022, WVI will have assisted 200 interfaith religious leaders in conflict management and improving the quality of positive relationships with children.
WVI is also working with religious leaders to assist 17,346 children to have an inclusive view (understanding of diversity) in their environment, and to have hope for the future through a faith values approach throughout 2021-2022.
