Nermnu Biak Reading House
Limited access and facilities, as well as a lack of teaching capacity of adults around children are problems that contribute to the low literacy skills of children in Biak, Papua. The economic conditions of society also make 'books' considered an expensive item.
Wahana Visi Indonesia pays high attention to increasing literacy in poor areas in Indonesia. For Biak itself, children's reading ability is below the national average. Through the Wahana Literacy program, we try to intervene in schools and in the community by focusing on improving students' five basic skills, namely: letter recognition, awareness of phonemes/sounds, reading fluently, vocabulary and reading comprehension.
Regarding the above, one of the core components that will be improved in Biak is child-friendly reading corner/house facilities so that children can more closely and easily access reading facilities, have positive activities in their spare time, and are more interested in learning for the sake of time. better future.
The Nermnu Reading House will be created by renovating or revitalizing a previously existing building. Apart from reading books and lessons, the Nermnu Reading House will also be equipped with educational teaching aids, digital learning materials, and the creation of contextual literacy materials for Papua. Not only that, the quality of teachers will be improved through tutor training and monitoring and evaluation activities.
