The project aims to build 1000 toilets in Manggarai, West Manggarai and East Manggarai which can lead to a declaration of Open Defecation Free (ODF) in the target area. Starting with a triggering process in the community about the importance of hygienic behavior, followed by training so that the community can make their own handicraft toilets with basic standards. The toilets will also be equipped with a basic handwashing facility, so that children and the community can practice handwashing behavior.

By emphasizing behavioral change in and through the community, WVI not only helps build and maintain hardware, but the project will start with promoting behavioral change in the community. The project is carried out by considering the cost-effectiveness of the WASH program and providing strengthened data and monitoring and evidence-based design.

Your Christmas gift, #HealthyToilet for children in Manggarai, NTT

7 million Rupiah for 1 healthy toilet

70% of households in the Manggarai Cluster do not yet have healthy toilets

  • In East Nusa Tenggara, especially in the Manggarai Cluster (East, Central and West Manggarai), there are still many children who do not have access to #HealthyToilets. According to data collected by WVI, only 30 percent of households in the Manggarai Cluster have #HealthyToilets while the rest do not have proper toilets. This condition is one of the causes of the high stunting rate in the Manggarai Cluster. Poor sanitation and inadequate toilets can increase the risk of stunting.
