Provision for Old Age Couples from Telaga Paca
Not everyone is lucky to know how to manage finances and save. One of them was experienced by Yarnes Panganton (68), a farmer from Telaga Paca Village, North Halmahera Regency. Through the assistance of the Moringa project of Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) funded by Australian Aid, Yarnes feels fortunate to be one of the participants in the Gender Inclusion Financial Literacy Training and learn about finance.
“We were quite helped from yesterday's training process. At least we know when we have income, we have to save it first and open the rest for necessities. Now we have a little bit of savings that we will use for our needs and if we have more we will use it for business,” Yarnes said.
Yarnes is a member of a farmer group that has received assistance from WVI. Together with other farmer group members, Yarnes learned many things about managing household finances.
"My wife and I have carried out deliberation processes in the household, and we are also grateful that yesterday's material, we understand more and more why we have to sit together and talk about all things household together," said this father of five children.
In his old age, Yarnes and his wife still have to work to meet their daily needs. Agriculture and animal husbandry are his household plans in the future, namely starting to grow corn and raise fish. Although not everything can be done, at least there is something that has been started from the old-age vision that he has conveyed.
“I just finished harvesting corn. The result is good enough for our household needs. The plan is that my wife and I will plant bananas around the house, and the proceeds will be used for the expansion of the house we have just built. If there is more, it will be used for pigs, ducks, and fish," said Yarnes.
Gender Inclusion Financial Literacy Training Training is expected to help farmers to apply the learning process in the training in their daily life.
