Starts with Curiosity, Ends in Adding Insight
Being a student majoring in International Relations, Andre (21), is interested in contributing to social work, especially in the fields of children's education and health. His very strong curiosity to work in an NGO (non-governmental organization) made Andre interested to join as a volunteer at WVI, which turned out to provide him with broad insights.
Andre joined as a volunteer for five months in the Support Office Liaison (SOL) unit under the Digital, Partnership, and Innovation (DPI) department. Even though it was only for a short time, Andre admitted that he had a memorable experience when he became a volunteer at that time.
“There are many benefits that I get. First, about experience and insight. For me, this means the experience of working in the WVI National Office team with SOL. From there I was able to learn the technical skills and soft skills required by a WVI staff. I also got an insight into the ins and outs of the NGO world and the conditions of social development in Indonesia,” he explained.
He added that he saw that the work of a large-scale NGO like WVI was wider than what he had known from WVI's social media.
“Almost everything that was taught I did not know before I became a volunteer at WVI. This shows that what I see regarding WVI activity in the media is only a small part of what is happening behind the scenes,” he added.
By volunteering, Andre is grateful to be a part of WVI's mission to empower children, families, and communities throughout Indonesia. According to him, his experience as a volunteer made him dream bigger so that Indonesian children can get access to good quality education and health services.
"Because I think these two are important foundations for the development of Indonesia's young generation," he concluded.
