The Words That Changed My Child's Future

The Words That Changed My Child's Future

Dropping out of school is still a common problem in Sekadau Regency, West Kalimantan. Many children have dropped out of school because of economic problems. Vera, a senior high school student in Sekadau Regency, who is also the representative of Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) children almost experienced this. Just like most other dropout issues, Vera's parents also experienced economic problems that almost made their child feel like dropping out of school.

"We almost gave up on sending Vera to school," said Lingling, Vera's mother.

Lingling's confusion about her daughter's future did not last long.

“When we were almost desperate, my husband and I were visited by Wahana Visi Indonesia staff. We exchanged ideas about the complaints and obstacles that the family was experiencing. We were motivated to never give up on sending our children to school. If a child wants to go to school, parents should have efforts to send her to school,” she recalled the support she received through WVI staff.

The brief visit turned out to give Vera a glimmer of hope. With the words and moral support that WVI gave to her parents, Vera can continue her education. Vera's intelligence and passion for learning made Lingling and her husband firmly determined to realize Vera's dream.

Now Vera is still excited to continue her education. She even achieved achievements in her class as the first 1st winner out of 31 students in the class. Vera also won the TTS (crossword puzzle) competition related to Covid-19 held by WVI. Vera even plans to continue her education up to the university level.

“Now I am happy and proud that Vera can win at her school. I hope Vera will stay focused on school, ”Lingling hoped for her proud child.
