HSBC’s Livelihood Assistance for Under-Two Children Family in Jakarta

#BersamaMelawanCovid19 - The COVID-19 pandemic has an impact on the economic sector of most people in Indonesia. One of the groups of people who are severely affected economically are those who work in the informal sector in urban areas such as Jakarta. To solve this problem, HSBC Indonesia in collaboration with Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) and DuitHape provide livelihood assistance  for affected communities in the Jakarta area through cash and voucher programming. The assistance is a stimulant for families of pregnant women and under-two children (baduta). Baduta becomes the focus of assistance because during this period, children can grow optimally. In addition, the assistance is also provided to families whose income was reduced and had lost their livelihoods.

Each household received a stimulant of Rp 1.5 million to meet the needs of their family. In Jakarta, this program takes place in the Jatinegara sub-district, covering the Rawa Bunga, Kampung Melayu, Cipinang Besar Utara, Cipinang Besar Selatan, and Bidara Cina village. In total, 630 families received the cash and voucher programming assistance. One of the beneficiaries is Khairunissa, a housewife from the Kampung Melayu sub-district. According to her, the assistance program really helps her family in this situation.

“I am very satisfied with this assistance because my husband has been laid off due to COVID-19. It really helps our family to buy daily food,”she said.

In line with Khairunissa, Rohaeni, an under-two mother also used the money she received to support her children’s school fee and her baby.

Alhamdulillah, this assistance makes it easier for me to pay for my children's school fees, buy groceries and baby supplies,” said Rohaeni.

The livelihood assistance is also used by another family as a business capital. Nur Bani is one of the mothers and food trader benefited by the program.

“This assistance helps my grilled sausage business. Thank you!” said the mother who lives in Jatinegara district.

HSBC Indonesia also distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for medical personnel in the seven WVI’s assisted areas in West Kalimantan.
