Smart Class for Children in Papua

Samsung Smart Learning Class (SSLC) established in Biak, Papua at Yayasan Pendidikan Kristen (YPK) Waupnor Elementary School on October 2018. SSLC was a result of a collaboration of Wahana Visi Indonesia and PT Samsung Elektronik Indonesia to support education for children in East Indonesia.

After the inauguration, SSLC has been using by the students in Biak District. For now, the local government, the Education Ministry and GKI Papua Education Foundation have managed the activity in SSLC.

There are several parts that are carried out before this class operates. In order to support the program that presents a technology for the learning process in the classroom, socialization, and support for strengthening community roles have been carried out through the selection of school committee administrators.

The School Committee was chosen because it can bridge the role of parents to support SSLC and school education programs. Training has also been given about the main roles and tasks of the school committee.

To maximize the running of the program at SSLC, Wahana Visi Indonesia together with several partners also participated in training for teachers, to improve the skills of teachers when using technology in SSLC.

27 teachers and 208 students participated in the training facilitated by Pesona Edu Jakarta. Through this training, teacher competence is increasingly equipped to ensure a quality teaching process so that the target of increasing student literacy skills can be achieved.

At present, SSLC is accessed by students every day. From the schedule that has been made, other schools whose teachers have attended training are given the opportunity to access this class every Saturday.

Maria Kendi, a teacher of YPK Waupnor Elementary School, said that she really liked this class, including the children she taught. The full range of facilities provided in this class helps Maria to engage in an interesting learning process. According to him, internet support and VR technology make teaching and learning activities more attractive.
