Spread Literacy in Yoboi's House of Reading

Solis Hanny Felle, also called Hanny, comes from Yobeh Village, Sentani, Papua. She has been joining as Wahana Visi Indonesia’s partner since 2011. Since that, she gave her time for children, especially in the education sector. With her capability as a Sunday school teacher, Hanny assisted the children to know more about themselves and their creator.

On June 2011, Hanny selected as a cadre of WVI Area Program Sentani’s assisted children. One year later, Child Study Group established in Yoboi Village and Hanny involved in manage the activity in Yoboi’s Child Study Group.

As time goes by, Library Boat comes to be reading facilitation for children in around Sentani Lake. A group of children who enjoy the presence of reading books with library boats is Yoboi’s Child Study Group. They can read all the books when the boat comes.

In 2018, Area Program Sentani Wahana Visi Indonesia supported by Prudential made a literation method, known as Unlock Literacy campaign, and collected people to do literacy activity by creating a Community Action approach. With this approach, people started to make reading camp for adults to help their children read properly at home.

Hanny is one of the mentors who contribute in pushing the people to do literacy movement. With her big willingness to help people, she provides her house to be a place for the learners. In April 2018, she finally made Yoboi’s House of Reading in her own house. She redecorated her living room so the children and their parents can enjoy their time in reading.

She opens the house every Wednesday at 3-5 p.m and people can read at that time. More than 30 children often come to her place just to fulfill their curiosity in reading.

Hanny really loves her activity with children and the parents. She dreams for everyone in Yoboi, especially children, can reach their future dreams, started from reading willingness.
