Supporting Education during the Pandemic, Dow Provides Educational Assistance in Jakarta and Landak

Studying from home (SFH) activities are still being carried out by children today. This condition cannot be denied that it is difficult for most students, teachers, and parents. Seeing the unrest in running SFH during the pandemic, Dow through Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) distributed educational assistance to children and teachers in Jakarta and Landak District, West Kalimantan.

Through the Dow for Education program, Dow provided school supplies and mobile data to 360 children aged 4-17 years old in Penjaringan District, North Jakarta, and distributed laptops to 25 schools in Landak Regency. Not only providing in-kind support, but Dow also helped 61 representatives of teachers, school principals, and Landak District Education and Culture staff to receive basic training on how to operate laptops and use Microsoft Office applications. This is done considering that there are still education practitioners who do not understand how to use laptops properly in Landak District.

The Secretary of the Landak Regency Education Office, Buyung S.Pd, explained that the schools in Landak are still carrying out SFH activity. The assistance provided to schools helps this distance teaching and learning process.

Amelia, the teacher who received the laptop and training assistance also expressed her gratitude for the support provided by Dow and WVI.

"This assistance helps our work as teachers to make it easier to make lesson plans, fill in report cards, and recap grades," she said.

Parents in the North Jakarta area also felt relief after receiving assistance. A mother of a child named Bilqis admitted this.

"So far, I have had difficulties, but after getting the education package, stationery, and mobile data, I feel helped. Thank you, Dow, and Wahana Visi Indonesia,” she said.

Dow's educational assistance is not the first to be given to people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020, Dow also distributed PPE assistance and 10,000 medical masks to health workers.
