Tahija Foundation Donates 90,000 Masks for Medical Workers

#BersamaMelawanCovid19 - Tahija Foundation through Wahana Visi Indonesia donates 90,000 KN95 masks for medical workers in Jakarta and several areas in the remote of NTT and Papua, which so far have not yet received much N95 type masks. The KN95 mask is a type of Filtering Facepiece Respirator (FFR) mask which is equivalent to the N95 mask. This mask group is recommended especially for health professionals who have to be in close contact to directly handle cases with high infection rates.

These masks will be distributed in areas that have been assisted by Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI), which have many cases of COVID-19 but lack of medical mask supply. In NTT, masks will be distributed to health facilities in Ngada, Nagekeo, Ende, Kupang, South Central Timor, Sikka, Southwest Sumba, and Alor. In Papua, masks will be distributed to Biak, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Asmat. Whereas in DKI Jakarta, masks will be distributed to Jatinegara and Penjaringan.

The KN95 masks are provided for health workers in the community health center (Puskesmas) and hospitals (RSUD) in these areas and will be provided during May-June 2020. The masks distribution is in coordination with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Ministry of Health.

"We donate N95 or KN95 masks that can protect users from the COVID-19 virus. As we know, at this time in addition to the supply of this type of mask is increasingly rare in Indonesia, the price has also increased several times," said Dr. Sjakon G. Tahija, Sp.M, Chairperson of the Tahija Foundation Trustees.

In addition to distributing KN95 masks to health workers, the Tahija Foundation has also lent the Tahija Foundation (World Mosquito Program/WMP Yogyakarta) Diagnostic Laboratory for an examination of Covid-19 samples for the Yogyakarta and surrounding areas. Tahija Foundation has also donated 4,000 KN95 masks to Fatmawati Hospital in Jakarta.

“The KN95 mask donation from Tahija Foundation is very meaningful to paramedics amidst the scarcity and high price of masks at the moment, while they are the most vulnerable to COVID-19 exposure. We will continue to work closely with the local government in the process of distributing the donation in order to be right on target and answer the needs of medical workers," Doseba, National Director and CEO of Wahana Visi Indonesia said.
