Reluctant to the Bank, Woman Saves Her Money in ASCA

Endang Suastiti (43), a housewife from Loru Village, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, has been reluctant to save money in a bank. She has no much money, so she hesitates to choose the bank as an alternate. However, since joining ASCA (Accumulating Saving and Credit Association) of Wahana Visi Indonesia, Endang has a different perspective on saving.

Endang has been joining as an ASCA member since September 2019, and this is the second year of her joining ASCA. ASCA made her dare to save money to increase family income.

“I have experienced great benefits after following ASCA in the first cycle for nine months. This is what made me decide to follow ASKA in a new cycle. This time I also invited some friends and family so that they could also experience the benefits of ASCA which I had experienced before,” said Endang.

Endang continued, at first, the ASCA group she joined had only 12 members. This group meets regularly every two weeks, with each member entitled to save through the purchase of shares of Rp.20,000.

"Through the ASCA activity, I can put money as savings for my child. Borrowing at ASCA has also really helped me and my family in reducing the burden during a pandemic, where children need money when studying at home. My children have to use data packages and study equipment at home so they don't get bored,” she explained.

Until now, Endang is still actively inviting friends and family to join and experience the benefits of ASKA. Several new groups will be created to accommodate the increase in participants.

"I hope that there will be many ASKA groups in Loru who will be able to feel the same benefits as we have," Endah concluded.
