Social Volunteer Collaboration for Child Protection

Social Volunteer Collaboration for Child Protection

If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, collaborate. For big dreams need friends who have the same heart and goals so that dreams come true.

That's roughly what one of the volunteers from Wahana Visi Indonesia for the Sipado Program Area, named Melati (40) did. He is a social volunteer in Padende Village, Marawola District, and has been a social volunteer for 12 years. Apart from being a volunteer for WVI, Melati is also a member of the Community-Based Integrated Child Protection (PATBM) group and is very knowledgeable about children's issues in her area. Melati feels that it is important to protect children from various types of violence.

“Yes, since I joined I have often attended training on what is a child, what is violence against a child. I get benefits in the form of knowledge of Child Violence and children's rights. I also try to be a protector for children, especially my children,” said Melati when WVI staff visited her home.

Melati is an active learner. He chose to continue his studies in the field of Indonesian language and literature education. In addition to the demands of her profession as a teacher, Melati also makes a greater contribution to the community she is mentoring.

He is currently attending a Real Work Lecture (KKN) in West Palu District, Palu City. While doing KKN, he received information that children's issues in the area were still high and he was concerned because many children were still experiencing violence. This aroused the spirit of social volunteers who took the initiative to carry out the "Stop Child Violence Campaign" program. This campaign is intended to increase the understanding of parents about the provision of children's rights and to encourage parents not to commit violence against children.

“I am very concerned to hear that children are still being abused. Therefore, I submitted a request for support to WVI in this activity and WVI connected me with the head of the PATBM in Lere, Mrs. Herdawati. It turns out that he is also a WVI social volunteer who has the same dream as me, namely protecting children. I am very grateful to WVI because with the guidance and training provided so far I have been very well equipped and able to have an impact on the communities around me,” added Melati.

Collaboration can only be created if we can find partners who have the same heart and dream.
