Indomaret Collaboration for Water Access in South Central Timor

A total of 3,962 people, 1,402 of whom are children, benefited directly and indirectly from the construction of two Clean Water Facilities in one of WVI's villages in South Central Timor District. This means a lot to every villager because water has never flowed near their homes. Previously, children had to walk long distances with difficult terrain to be able to fetch water to the source. In addition to taking up children's learning and playing time, fetching water to a distant source also threatens the safety and security of children.

In collaboration with Indomaret through the Peduli Anak Sehat project, WVI was able to facilitate the improvement of clean water facilities in for the whole village. There are two clean water facilities whose construction has been completed and can now be utilised by children and the community.

In addition to promoting PHBS (Clean and Healthy Living Behaviour), this clean water access also supports the village's Open Defecation Free (ODF) declaration. When people's behaviour and sanitation conditions are better, children can grow and develop optimally. This contributes greatly to improving the nutritional status of children under five in the village and preventing the transmission of diseases in children.

Through this project, WVI and the village community also initiated capacity building of the village Water Committee. As the administrators that ensure the availability of clean water access in the village, the Water Committee needs to have an action plan for the maintenance of clean water network facilities. This prevents the clean water network from ceasing to operate and harming many parties, especially children.

Currently, 200 house connections (SR) have been installed. These two clean water facility packages consist of solar panels, water pumps, catch basins, distribution pipes, public taps, water filter houses, spring protection, and reservoirs. It is expected that this facility can fulfil the need for clean water in the village. This clean water can be utilised for daily domestic needs such as bathing, washing, and watering the villagers' gardens.

Through Indomaret's support, children, villagers, and all stakeholders in South Central Timor can experience a much cleaner and healthier life. The children can also focus on playing and learning like any other children. This step is a big change in the lives of children until they can live a full and prosperous life.
