Lack of Learning Interaction, KBA Becomes the Literation Solution in Sarmi

The difficulty of the following learning during the pandemic was felt by children in one area of Sarmi Regency, Papua. To deal with this, Wahana Visi Indonesia in collaboration with GKI held a Children's Study Group (KBA/Kelompok Belajar Anak) activity, so that more and more children have access to education.

Naomi, a PAUD student is one of the beneficiaries of this KBA program. Naomi's school schedule only takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. She and her friends are not taught and invited to understand letters and numbers too often. Also added, because of the pandemic, teaching and learning activities are also reduced. This also happened to other children who were in elementary school, who also did not know how to read and count because of the ineffective school schedule.

Through KBA activities, Naomi and her friends can do many things. Playing and studying are routinely done by the children there because when they are at home, parents often don't have anyone to teach both writing and reading and counting or other learning activities.

"I'm happy because I can learn together and color together," said Naomi happily.

Not only accompanying the KBA program, but WVI also provided various reading books and dolls for Naomi and her friends to use.

Marselia Marsyom, a KBA assistant where Naomi studied, expressed her gratitude for the assistance provided to children in Sarmi Regency, including Naomi.

“The world of children here is only limited to playing and helping their parents in the forest. Now that there is KBA, many parents trust their children to join KBA because they can learn and play here. One of them is Naomi, who is developing quite well where after 3 months of diligently participating in KBA activities she can count and write, and our target next year when she enters elementary school she can read, write and count," concluded Marselia.
