“As a MEAL officer that means we have indirect power to develop programs to help people. We also can execute the idea directly to them. We could understand that the reality is the people are the main key to the program. They are the ones who can improve their quality of life itself,” Maria said.

As a MEAL officer, she saw a lot of vulnerable things happened in the communities and it brings her to be a sensitive person. She remains herself to be involving the people’s problem to make a good program for their needs. Through this profession too, Maria has been able to help affected communities in Lombok, Central Sulawesi, and Mozambique, Africa.

"Working in the disaster response team gives access to work and is guided by a team from World Vision (WV). WV is fighting together, not only WV in Indonesia but in various other countries," she added.

For her, working at WVI means learning to be consistent, one of which is consistently praying for the protection of God before starting work. She has been done this for 5 years working at WVI and made her sincere in carrying out the profession as a humanitarian worker.

"Humanitarian workers are not brave gods capable of helping everyone ... the main actor is still the community," explained the traveling enthusiast.
